Parry System Mastery

Parrying is THE core mechanic in Devil Hunter. Master it or die trying.

Why Parrying is Essential

Block ALL incoming damageCritical

A successful parry negates 100% of the attack damage.

2x Attribute XPHigh

Parrying grants approximately double the XP compared to regular attacks.

Counter WindowMedium

After a parry, you have a brief window for a guaranteed counter-attack.

PvP SurvivalCritical

In PvP invasions, parrying is often the difference between life and death.

Timing Window

The parry window is tight. You need to press block just as the enemy's attack is about to connect.

1
Too EarlyFail

Your guard drops before the attack lands.

2
Slightly EarlyBlock

You block but don't get the parry bonus.

3
PerfectPARRY

Flash effect, full benefits, counter window opens.

4
Slightly LateHit

You take full damage.

Visual Cue

A successful parry creates a flash effect and a distinct sound. Learn to recognize this feedback - it confirms you nailed the timing.

How to Parry

Basic Steps

  1. 1Watch the enemy's attack animation
  2. 2Press block (hold to guard) just before impact
  3. 3Look for the flash effect (success indicator)
  4. 4Counter-attack during the stagger window

Common Mistakes

  • Holding block too early (guard drops before hit)
  • Panic blocking (mashing instead of timing)
  • Not watching enemy animations
  • Trying to parry multi-hit combos (parry first hit only)

Practice Targets

Common DevilsEasy

Slow, predictable attacks. Perfect for learning.

Division 1 EnemiesEasy

Low damage if you fail. Safe practice.

Eternity Devil (Raid)Easy

Boss rarely attacks aggressively. Good timing practice.

Players (Division 3)Hard

Unpredictable. Only attempt when confident.

Parry XP Farming

Parrying gives ~2x the attribute XP compared to regular attacks. This makes parry-farming one of the fastest ways to level weapon proficiency.

Best Parry Farm Spot

Find enemies with predictable, frequent attacks. Let them attack you repeatedly while parrying each hit. Common Devils in Division 1 work well for beginners.

PvP Parrying

Human players are much harder to parry than NPCs. They can feint, delay attacks, and mix up timing. In PvP:

  • • Don't rely on parry alone - mix with dodging
  • • Watch for attack startup animations
  • • Some players will bait parries then punish
  • • Practice in Division 3 only when ready
